Consolation Action Centre Stage Saturday At Red Shores

CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – Fresh off a championship win last weekend, After The Lovin will search for a consolation crown on Saturday afternoon at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.

The 13-dash Saturday card kicks off at 12:30 P.M.and newly minted Island Breeder’s Final winner After The Lovin has post 3 in the $5,000 Atlantic Breeder’s Crown three-year-old pacing filly consolation. Jason Hughes is back at the controls in the race 3 contest for trainer Earl Watts and owners Windemere Farms and River Valley Management. Other top entries include Back In The Game (To be driven by Gilles Barrieau) and Pickpocketprincess (Adam Merner).

Race analyst Les MacIsaac will side with After The Lovin for the top spot.

“After The Lovin earned a new speed badge two back then followed it up with another one in her latest,” MacIsaac said. “With her current form as good as it is a threepeat is certainly possible.”

Howmac Napoleon is the favourite in the race 7 $5,000 two-year-old pacing colt consolation with Merner in the seat for trainer Chris Davies and owner JTL Risk Stable of Port Morien, N.S. The Articulator rookie has won his last two starts heading into Saturday.

Streakazana is the morning line favourite in the race 9 two-year-old pacing filly consolation for a $5,000 purse. Marc Campbell trains and drives the post 4 starter for owner Mcr Streakazana Group of Charlottetown.

The final consolation of the day is the race 12 three-year-old pacing colt race with Don’t Be A Hero the top choice with rail control in the $5,000 class for driver Hughes, trainer Watts and owners Windemere Farms, Harris Johnston and John Howatt.

Champions To Be Crowned On Red Shores Sunday

CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – Divisional dominance has been the name of the game for Red Dirt Boomer and he will look for the cherry on top on Atlantic Breeder’s Crown championship Sunday at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.

The 13-dash Sunday card has a 12:30 P.M. first race post time with Red Dirt Boomer putting his seven-race winning streak to the test in race 12 of the program in the $20,000 Atlantic Breeder’s Crown final for three-year-old pacing colts. Trainer Gilles Barrieau handles the driving duties of Red Dirt Boomer from post 4 for owner Daniel Ross of Belfast.

Woodmere Oleksiak will look for redemption in the race 10 Atlantic Breeder’s Crown for three-year-old pacing fillies as the daughter of Articulator has post 1 in the $20,000 event after seeing her win streak snapped in her latest. David Dowling is back in the bike for trainer Earl Watts and owners Windemere Farms, Hollis Newsom, Debbie Denney and Ric McNutt.

With his breaking issues in the past, Woodmere Rollnpop was a convincing winner last week and will try for more of the same in the race 8 Atlantic Breeder’s Crown two-year-old colt pace for a $20,000 purse. Clare MacDonald trains and drives the son of Rollwithitharry for owners Morah Kerr and Phonsie MacEachern of Nova Scotia.

Na Naa Said So is the favourite in the race 6 $20,000 Atlantic Breeder’s Crown two-year-old pacing filly final from post 5 for the team of driver Redmond Doucet, trainer Robert MacLeod and Nova Scotia owners Hugh and Ali MacEachern.

The rivalry resumes between Mabou Ridge (MacDonald) and Tequila Tuesday (Myles Heffernan Sr.) in the $9,000 Atlantic Breeder’s Crown two-year-old trot final Erwin Andrew Memorial in race 2 sponsored by Meridian Farms and the P.E.I. Harness Racing Industry Association. Tequila Tuesday got the better of Mabou Ridge last week in the Island Breeder’s final and the former has post 4 to work from this week.

With six straight wins, Gettin Messi is the favourite in the $9,000 three-year-old trot final Louis McIsaac Memorial in race 4 with Mike McGuigan driving from post 3 for trainer Len McGuigan and owner Jamie Whalen of Avondale. The son of Amrbro Barrister has won his last six starts heading into Sunday championship. The memorial final is also presented by Meridian Farms and PEI Harness Racing Industry Association.

Also on the program is a $3,000 Open Trot Class in race 7, a $4,000 Fillies and Mares Open Pace in race 9 and a $6,000 Invitational Pace in race 13.

The Race Day TV network, presented by City of Charlottetown and Xplornet, will carry all the action live from the Charlottetown based location. Lee Drake, Peter MacPhee, Vance Cameron and Ken Warkentin will host Championship Sunday.

Varadero Hanover Looks For Upset Repeat

SUMMERSIDE, PE – After shocking the tote board and betting public in last week’s top event, Varadero Hanover has his work cut out for him to repeat that magic on a special Monday afternoon program at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway.

The 11-dash Monday card has a 1 P.M. post time with Varadero Hanover leaving from post 5 in the race 10 top event for a $2,500 purse. Ken Murphy supplied the upset last week and will be in the race bike again Monday for trainer Jeff Wallace and owner Bobby Gordon of Elmsdale. Riding a perfect two-hole trip, Varadero Hanover was at 13-1 odds when he hit the wire first in last week’s top class. Also in the Monday afternoon feature is post 1 starter Pictonian Storm with Myles Heffernan Sr., in the bike for trainer Wade Sorrie with a win and a second in his last two. Nogreatmischief rallied late for a third place finish in last week’s top event and has post 4 this week for trainer-driver Walter Cheverie while Mando Fun cut out all the action in that race to finish second. Mando Fun leaves from post 3 on Monday with Gilles Barrieau back in the driver’s seat. Rounding out the field if post 2 starter Mantario for the combo of driver Norris Rogers and trainer Alex Sobey.

The backstretch beat in Monday program pegs Nogreatmischief for top spot on the podium.

“What a performance from Nogreatmischief weaving through traffic to hit the ticket in his latest,” reads the beat. “If he doesn’t have so much to try and do late in the mile this week he could mop up the whole field. Top call.”

The $2,100 back-up pace lines up in race 8 with Best To Hurst the morning line favourite with rail control for driver Barrieau, trainer Earl Watts and owners Neal Moase of Warren Grove, Windemere Farms of Hampshire and Roger Burns of North Rustico. The class dropping son of Cambest has recorded five wins so far this season including a 1:54.3 victory over Red Shores Charlottetown. Other top entrants are Coasttocoastshark (Driven by Murphy) and Heart And Soul (Cheverie).
