Barrieau dominates Atlantic Breeders Crown finals

CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – It was all Barrieau, all day at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park for Atlantic Breeder’s Crown championship Sunday.
The New Brunswick reinsman won seven races on the 15-dash program including three Atlantic Breeder’s Crown finals as the 2015 Atlantic Sires Stakes season came to a close. Hoawmacscanasta gave Barrieau his first Breeder’s Crown victory of the day in the $22,000 two-year-old pacing filly final. The daughter of Articulator was a 1:59.2 winner over sloppy conditions for trainer Barrieau and owners Wayne MacRae of Nova Scotia and Robert Tilley and Lester Mott of New Brunswick. West River Ambyr (Clare MacDonald) was second with Brookdale Liz (Bernard McCallum) third.
The two-year-old pacing colt Jackson K Down won his $22,000 Breeder’s Crown final in 1:58.2 for driver Barrieau, trainer Stephen Mason and owners Downey stables of New Brunswick. Fellow Mason stable mate KD Overdrive (Marc Campbell) was second with Magical Cowboy (Ken Murphy) finishing third.
Dixieland Band captured the $22,000 three-year-old pacing colt breeder’s crown with a 1:57.2 victory with Barrieau in the bike for trainer Kevin MacLean and owners Reg MacPherson and David MacKenzie of Stratford and Aaron MacKenzie of Winsloe. Archrival Proven Desire (Campbell) was second with Ultimatelyhandsome (Darren Crowe) in third.
Barrieau also captured the $5,000 Atlantic Breeder’s Crown Invitational in 1:56.1 with D Gs Camme for trainer Jackie Matheson and owners Ron Matheson, Tom Clark and Quentin and Hal Bevan, all of Charlottetown. Clic K (MacDonald) came in second while All Turain (Todd Trites) was third. General Luckypercy was a winner in 1:57.3 as trainer Matheson and driver Barrieau teamed up again in the $3,000 Atlantic Breeder’s Crown Open Mares pace for owner Jodi Lynn Matheson. Barrieau’s other two wins came in overnight events with Prince Adam in 1:58.3 and Astronomical Union in 2:01.
In other Atlantic Breeder’s Crown action, veteran reinsman Leonard McGuigan visited the winner’s circle in the $9,000 two-year-old trot final with Glencove Zani in 2:06.2 over Howmac Gypsy (Jack Panting) and Da Master (Campbell). Glencove Zani is owned and trained by Ted Smallwood of Stratford.
The $9,000 three-year-old trot final saw Paymenowpaymelater victorious in 2:02.3 for driver Campbell, trainer Earl Watts and owner Wade Peconi of Stanchel. JK Blaze (Mike Stevenson) was second with Suicide Shift (Steven Shepherd) third. Both Atlantic Breeder’s Crown trot finals are sponsored by Meridian Farms.
Campbell had another Breeder’s Crown victory as his own trainee Dustylane Msvickie captured the three-year-old pacing filly final in 1:57.1 for owner Grayland Farm of Nova Scotia. Three Pink Bows (Danny Romo) was second with Elm Grove Joanette (Kenny Arsenault) finishing third.
Campbell had a total of four winners on the day.
The Saturday afternoon program featured four $5,000 Atlantic Breeder’s Crown pacing consolations with Riverboat Dancer (Mike Stevenson) winning the two-year-old filly consolation in 2:02.3, Brandons Glory (Barrieau) winning the two-year-old colt consolation in 2:00.3, Invader M (MacDonald) victorious in the three-year-old filly consolation in 2:00.4 and George (Neldie MacDonald) winning the three-year-old colt consolation in 2:00.1.
Campbell had four winner’s on the Saturday program, while Barrieau visited the winner’s circle a total of three times. Trainer Kevin MacLean had a training triple, with Harold Shepherd and Wade Sorrie both training two winners on the program.
