Atlantic Sires Stakes Trotters Shine at Summerside

It was the Atlantic Sires Stakes trotters time to shine at Red Shores Summerside Raceway on Tuesday, with six divisions of the tw0 and three-year-olds on the evening race card.

This year’s trotting events are once again being sponsored by Meridian Farms and the performance on the track of the freshman and sophomore trotters was impressive.

The first of three $6600 events for the two-year-old trotters went to Fine Thanks and owner-trainer-driver Jason Hughes.

Hughes also had command of the two-year-old trotter Craigh Na Dun when he crossed the finish line first for owner Buntainwood Farm of Brackley Beach, PE.

The third and final event for two-year-olds went to High Bid and driver Walter Cheverie for owner-trainer Joseph Smallwood of Stratford, PE.

The Cheverie-Smallwood duo also had success with the three-year-old trotting gelding J K Blaze taking first place honours in their $6220 event.

Meanwhile, Suicide shift and driver Steven Shepherd met with success in their division for owners Margo Fisher of Fredericton, NB and Harold G Shepherd, of Charlottetown, PE.

Paymenowpaymelater and driver Marc Campbell won the final event for three-year olds for owner Wade Peconi of Stanchel, PE.

Atlantic Sires Stakes racing action continues Wednesday evening when the two-year-old pacing colts meet for some friendly competition at Red Shores Summerside Raceway. First race post time on Wednesday is 7 pm.
