Atlantic Sires Stakes Colts Impressive at Northside Downs

Atlantic Sires Stakes three-year-old pacing colts put on an impressive show at Northside Downs in North Sydney on Saturday afternoon.

Astronomical Union and driver Mike Stevenson captured the first of two ‘A’ division events in a time of 1:58.3 for owner Reginald MacPherson of Stratford, PEI.  Coming home a close second was Putnams New Year and driver Todd Trites and finishing third was Lyndale Royal and Brodie MacPhee.

The second $9520 ‘A’ division event on the afternoon race card went to Junebugs Baby, with Greg Sparling in the bike, in a time of 1:59.  The brown pacing colt is owned by Fraser Turnbull of Dominion, NS, and John Turnbull of Glace Bay, NS.   Second place honours went to Putnams Storm and Todd Trites and Mr Thompson and driver Mike Stevenson placed third.

The lone ‘B’ division event went to Saulsbrook Blaze and driver Clare MacDonald in 1:59.1.

Atlantic Sires Stakes racing action continues next week as a full slate of events is scheduled to take place during Lobster Carnival Week at Red Shores Summerside Raceway.
