Atlantic Sires Stakes Colts and Fillies Featured During Old Home Week

August 14, 2016

The best two and three-year-old pacers and trotters from across the Maritimes will be featured during Old Home Week racing action now underway at Red Shores Charlottetown Driving Park.

Saturday afternoon’s action packed card featured the Atlantic Sires Stakes three-year-old pacing fillies with All About Madi (Walter Cheverie), Howmacscanasta (Gilles Barrieau) and West River Ambyr (Clare MacDonald) each capturing first place honours in their respective $10,000 ‘A’ division events.

Atlantic Sires Stakes racing action heats up again on Monday afternoon when the three-year-old pacing colts meet at the Charlottetown oval.  Six divisions will go for a total purse pool of almost $36,000.  First race post time on Monday is 1 pm.

The racing action will continue on Tuesday when the two and three-year-old Meridian Farms sponsored trotting events are highlighted on the evening racing card.  The Atlantic Sires Stakes two-year-old colts and fillies will go on Wednesday and Thursday respectively.

The Atlantic Sires Stakes program, the first of its kind in Canada, is celebrating its 50th Anniversary year.  The program was formed back in 1966 with the sole purpose of promoting the Standardbred horse industry in Atlantic Canada.  Today the program not only showcases the best young horses in the region, it also encourages people to breed, buy and race horses in the Maritimes.  The season wraps up on Thanksgiving Weekend with the Atlantic Breeders Crown Championships at Red Shores Charlottetown Driving Park.
