The Atlantic Sires Stakes program has been promoting the sport of harness racing for almost fifty years. The program, which is sponsored by the Atlantic Standardbred Breeders Association, promotes the breeding of standardbred horses in Atlantic Canada and provides incentives for people to buy, raise and race horses in the region.
The Atlantic Sires Stakes program is open to two and three-year-old pacers and trotters sired by a stallion registered with the program for the applicable breeding year. There are six divisions in the racing series, which will take place at five racetracks in Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island this year.
The Atlantic Sires Stakes trotting divisions are generously supported by Meridian Farms. In addition, the two-year-old trotting champion will be awarded the Erwin Andrew Memorial trophy and the three-year-old champion will receive the Louis McIsaac memorial trophy, both sponsored by Meridian Farms.
The Atlantic Sires Stakes program culminates with the Atlantic Breeders Crown championship each year. Participation in the championship weekend is determined by point standings at the end of the season, so every race counts!
